This is a very special song to me, as I originally wrote it in the aftermath of 9/11, but never released it. Then the pandemic hit and I realized how much that the lyrics were so meaningful in these trying times. Fight is 2020's song, and 2021's anthem - a song of fighting for hope, and for each other.
Zach Bair is the subject of a feature story in the national music publication “The Aquarian Weekly”, one of the top national music publications for over 50 years.

In the article, Zach Bair offers an in-depth interview about his mission to help get the word out for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), a national non-profit suicide organization that is local in every state in the US, as well as detailed discussions about his efforts in the music business and VNUE’s disruptive Soundstr music recognition technology (MRT).

For months, Bair has been doing a media tour and appearing on television, in radio spots and in the press as he shares data about suicide and depression from the CDC and Mental Health America, and his single “Ordinary Girl,” which tackles this difficult subject head on. He also hosted a live Memphis benefit concert and continues to donate 20 percent of proceeds to the AFSP from streams and downloads of the “Ordinary Girl” single as well as the EP. The new single and EP is now being played on hundreds of radio stations both across the nation and internationally and is being streamed widely.

Bair has stepped up as an activist in order to help anyone dealing with suicide ideation and depression, since it touched him in a very personal way.

“This pandemic – and all of the other various stresses we are all going through right now, including the upcoming holiday season – makes it all that much more important to ensure those who may be suffering from depression or mental health issues get the help they need,” said Bair. “I’m blessed to be able to share this message in the context of music, and to use this platform to raise awareness.”

In The Aquarian Weekly article , written by journalist Debra Kate Schafer, Bair’s commitment to shed a light on suicide and depression is like a musical hook that is now resonating with millions of fans.

Schafer wrote, in part, “With inspiration being taken from The Beatles, Boston, Foo Fighters, Journey, Tears for Fears, and Soundgarden, Zach Bair has taken a handful of ingredients from some of the greatest musical acts in history to create his own original sound and authentic rock style. The cherry on top of his delectable musical work? The amount of advocating he does for other people and other artists. With a partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and a business venture to bring both power and revenue back into the hands of artists, Bair is proving that with enough passion and motivation, nothing can stop you from doing well by yourself and your peers – even during a global pandemic.”

Musician and businessman Zach Bair is donating proceeds from his new music to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

The title track from the Zach Bair Band’s ‘Ordinary Girl’ was completed earlier this year after Zach first demoed it nearly 15 years ago. He was driven to compete the song after the death of an employee but the ‘Ordinary Girl’ story has a happy ending.

“I sat on it and intended to do something with it but life got in the way,” Zach tells Noise11.com. “I wrote it because there was a girl contemplating suicide. After being surrounded by love and support she didn’t do it and lived her life. That’s what that song is about.

“Flash forward to last year, we had a young employee, 28-year old. She committed suicide. There were no obvious signs she was suicidal. It got me thinking that I needed to finish it and do something with that song”.

To give the project importance Zach created a goal in finding a partner organization. “I was working on getting a partner for suicide awareness,” he said. “I pushed the release of the E.P. to September 1 to coincide with National Suicide Awareness Month and ended up working with an organization called The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and donating 20% of the proceeds from the singles and the E.P”.

Juggling the focused world of business with the creative world of music came easy for Zach. “I’ve always been a musician,” he says. “I started paying piano at a very young age. I was about four years old. My mother had a grand piano and she would accuse me of banging on the piano. I always loved music. I got into music more seriously when I got into high school or college. I knew at an early age I didn’t want to be that guy who would find some guys and go and live in a one bedroom, no air-conditioning, one-bedroom apartment in L.A. and try and make it. I knew my acumen was in business and technology and that I would build my career in technology and as I go along the way I would I would leverage that technology and relationships and that’s eventually what led to the music business and that’s been my career”.

Zach’s business upbringing has given him an understanding of the words “music” and “business’ in the term, Music Business. “Its definitely come in handy because I can see both sides of the equation,” he says. “Don’t get me wrong. I respect the artists that play music they like. At the same time when you are writing a song, you can’t go too left field or right field because people won’t understand what you are conveying and what you are trying to say with your music. I love Rush, I love Dream Theater, but they are musician’s bands. The thing I always came back to with songwriting is emotion first then come back to something that makes them move or feel good”.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. To commemorate the month, a Memphis musician will be donated a portion of the proceeds from his new single to the New Jersey chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

“If there’s any real message that I would say is that we are human beings need to be more tuned into other people that may not outwardly show that they’re having issues or suicidal thoughts,” says rock ‘n’ roll musician Zach Bair.

Bair says that others also need to be comfortable reaching out to one another to ask if they are OK. Bair’s latest EP was released to coincide with National Suicide Prevention Month. He says that the cause is a personal one.

“We lost a young employee at one of our venues to suicide and she was only like 28 years old and nobody expected it,” he says. “It hit everybody like really, really hard.”

The single “Ordinary Girl” is promoting suicide awareness.

“The girl in the song thinks she’s ordinary. But by the time she gets through and has some help and some love around her, she realizes she’s not ordinary. She’s extraordinary,” says Bair.

Bair says that he will donate 20% of all proceeds from his single to New Jersey Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

“One thing that we all will be doing with those proceeds is investing that money back into our communities by hosting free educational programming…It’s more important than ever that we be there for each other and take steps to prevent suicide,” says American Foundation for Suicide Prevention area director Elizabeth Clemens.

Bair says that he hopes that his contribution will be an important step towards achieving that goal.
Zach Bair Bandtag:zachbairmusic.com,2005:Post/64247772020-09-04T08:33:13-05:002020-09-04T08:33:13-05:00The EP is OUT!
The Ordinary Girl EP is now available across all streaming platforms!
What many people are not aware of, though, is that Bair is an artist too – which has of course fueled much of his intense desire to help musicians with his technology through the years. He cut his teeth playing in Dallas during 90s and 2000s, alongside his tech career. Bair also is known for his two music venues in town, RockHouse Live.

After many years behind the scenes on the business side, Bair is releasing new music including a single, Ordinary Girl, on August 10th, and an EP of the same name September 1st, with its exquisitely seasoned Rock ‘n’ Roll roots prominently on display. The result is the staggering collective magic of this dream team of industry gems and informal advisors, including behind-the-scenes producers and executives closely connected to powerhouse artists such as Saving Abel, matchbox twenty; Peter Frampton; Slash; Rob Thomas; Blondie; Simple Minds, and many others, some of whose live recordings Bair produced via the aforementioned DiscLive.

But make no mistake – this is a solid work of art created during the historic pandemic and powered by the in-the-gut moment of Bair’s reckoning that tomorrow may never come, so he’d best get busy.

“I’ve always been a musician and songwriter, but as a creative with a head for tech, I kept coming up with new ideas that kept morphing into responsibilities, so my time for playing kept getting smaller,” Bair said. “But nothing hits you in the face harder than a virus that can kill you at any time, and the pandemic has given me the time to really focus on my on my music and get it out. Now.”

The new EP is all rock with plenty of storytelling, haunting melodies that you can dance to, and a beat that never quits. A few months ago, Bair released Rutherford Drive and saw it quickly become a favorite of over 200,000 YouTube viewers and several hundred thousand streams on Spotify, as well as airplay across the country.

Now, the new release of the single Ordinary Girl sets the tone for a surprising arc of a suicidal woman who feels her life is nothing special, and realizes suddenly her very extraordinary self-worth. The new single will be available on all major streaming platforms as well as rock and AAA radio, and the lyric video, which will also be available Aug 10th, will be available on Bair’s Offical Artist Channel on Youtube. The official music video will be released Aug 21st.

Proving Rock ’n’ Roll has no age limits, Bair teamed up with fellow notable Mid-South based musicians such as Daniel Dwight on bass, a founding member of platinum-selling band Saving Abel, Jeff Cobble, who has worked with globally-known “epic” rock act Medieval Steel, and Olive Branch, MS resident Jeff Ward on drums, to form the Zach Bair Band when Rutherford Drive was released.

The EP, which contains five new songs plus a remastered version of Rutherford Drive, was produced in Nashville by Grammy-winner Skidd Mills, known for producing such artists as Saving Abel, 12 Stones, Pop Evil, Skillet and others; and it was mastered by another Grammy-winner, Brad Blackwood, of Euphonic Masters, who has done work for such notable artists as Evanescence, Maroon 5, Alter Bridge, and more. Both Mills and Blackwood have Memphis roots, which is how Bair got to know them and enlisted them for the project.

Bair’s “label” team includes his colleague at VNUE, Lou Mann, who ran the legendary Capitol Records as GM and EVP for a number of years, and who went on to serve as president of HOB Media Properties; and Jody Best, who is heading up the promotion of the record to Radio. Bair is in good company with Best, as her clients include such massive artists as Def Leppard, REO Speedwagon, Boston, and Orianthi.

Ordinary Girl will be available for purchase and streaming on all major platforms on August 10th, 2020. Fans may click this link to follow Bair and pre-save the song: https://bit.ly/OrdinaryGirlSpotify.
